This is a unique application for many of our warehousing clients. Their facilities can have racks that are 15-20 feet high. This requires the ability to read barcodes at long distances, possibly up to 40 feet. Considerations arise.
The resolution of the barcodes(number of characters per inch in the barcode)
All barcodes are scaleable. To read at a distance the bar widths must be larger, so the code density is lower, possibly 1 character per inch
As barcodes are read by detecting reflected light, the labels on the pallet racks generally require a retro-reflective material for distances in excess of about 20 feet.
Reading these labels demands a long-range scanner. These are available as tethered, Bluetooth cordless and scanning engines embedded in industrial mobile terminals
We regularly produce these labels as part of the barcode data collection systems we provide.
